I have had this crazy obsession with acai bowls for a while now and I seriously just tried my first one a month ago. All the pretty pictures of them just really got me absolutely craving one! I searched high and low here in Salem, Oregon and couldn’t find one place that made them. I did find a place in Portland, but I was hesitant to drive all the way up there with both my girls just to get one. However, I was getting desperate! Thankfully, I took a trip to Utah and while I was out and about I spotted a place that had them and immediate had to run in and grab one. I was a little surprised when I saw how much they were on the menu ($11.00), but I had to have one so I didn’t even care! Well let me tell you that acai bowl was incredible!! I was obsessed! I knew I needed more in my life, like every day! So when I got home from Oregon, I enlisted the help of my dear friend Bonnie to help me come up with a recipe so that I could have one whenever my tummy felt like one!
I had to travel around to several stores to find the acai smoothie packs. Several stores that I went to looked at me like I was crazy when I asked them about it. They hadn’t even heard of them. I was like, “what is wrong with you people! They are everywhere and seriously the prettiest and yummiest thing ever!” But seriously, I was getting nervous because I needed acai bowls in my life. Like everyday! Thankfully I found the acai at a local health food store and every other ingredient is basic so I was good to go! I was so relieved and excited!
I admit I may have a weird obsession with these yummy bowls!
Just so you know I can make 5-6 acai bowls for the price of the one I had in Utah, and not to brag or anything but the one we made was SO much better!
So scroll on down to get the easy as heck recipe and see how amazing they turned out!
Homemade Acai Bowls
(Recipe makes 1 bowl)
1 acai smoothie pack (can be found at your local health stores, I bought the Sambazon brand)
1/2 cup frozen blackberries or any other frozen fruit
1/2 cup Greek yogurt
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 squirt agave nectar (1/2 teaspoon)
Blend together in your mixer until smooth! (If you like a very thick consistency you may want to pop it in the freezer for a bit.)
Granola (I bought mine at the health food store in the bins, honey almond flavor)
Peanut butter/Nutella (We did a 1 bowl with peanut butter and 1 bowl with Nutella and love them both!)
Obviously the possibilities for these bowls are endless. I can’t wait to get creative with my toppings and try new things!
Enjoy eating your tasty, pretty, and very healthy acai bowl!
